Welcome Back to Reviews with Faye Renee's Blog or OSCARs Gone Wild!
Today, I had initially planned to release a really fun After-Oscar Watch Party Video, but that is not to be. Because if you have not heard about the Oscar Incident, then you are really living under a rock—so, let’s get right to it—let’s tackle the gigantic elephant in the room. WILL SMITH!
That @$#%& that happened at the Oscars has loomed larger than life in the world. Yes, Will Smith Slapping Chris Rock at the 94th Oscars has dominated the news—people watched that and seemed to care more about it than the Carnage of a War taking place in Ukraine, so I digress. And, here we are.
Alright now, so, background. Every year at Reviews with Faye Renee we usually have a small Oscar Watch Party, sometimes with a few friends, sometimes just me and my Mom, as many of you may know, and due to the Pandemic, last year 2021, it was just me! However, this year I did invite a few of my bubble people over, y’all know the ones with shots and shots and more shots (vaccinations) because my dear Mother Mary Latrice was guest of honor!
Anyway, cutting to the chase—WILL SMITH—After Will Smith pulled that stunt at the Oscars, it has taken all the air out of the room! My God,, and 24 hours later Mr. Smith issued a wonderful unequivocal apology to Chris Rock and Rock has done the same.

The big thing now is "what will the Academy do—will he be banned for life; charges brought against him; what?" And, the biggest question of all, will the Academy deem to take away his rightfully-earned Best Actor Oscar Award for King Richard!?
Now, granted, everything the Academy does is within their rights, let's hope,, howBIGEever, my opinion: if they take away Will's Oscar they risk the ire of millions of marginalized people because once again, it will be taking when a Black person does something out of line, and treating it as “the Example”, or “the “Epitome of Bad Behavior” and the “THE FACE of What Not to Do at the Oscars” for LIFE!
And, while no one has ever “slapped” anyone on live TV at the Oscars, no one has had their Oscar taken away for bad behaviors either (except Weinstein??). I am talking about like the MANY HOLLYWOOD ACTORS that are KNOWN FOR, and some on the daily the following:
a) Wife Beaters (/Spouse Beaters) matter of #fact 80 Celebrities have been charged with Domestic Abuse (at least I have found during my research)…
b) Stalkers – again, several…
c) Pedophiles – some even married the victim, and work in Hollywood still, making movies, receiving Oscars and making moves…
d) Hollywood Sexual Harassers include the likes of Kevin Spacey, and unfortunately, too many to name.
e) Drunkard Drivers (and many have caused physical harm to people driving while drunk) like Sheen, Downey, Nolte, etc.
But the point is, all the above are real examples of Unacceptable, Bad Behavior, and their Oscars and other fine acting awards (Golden Globes, etc.) still stand on their shelves, and after a time, many times they show up again at said ceremonies.
Bottom line, if Will Smith’s Oscar is taken away for this, then it sets a precedent standard, and every one of the 100s of actors, many living today should likewise have their Oscars, Golden Globes, etc. taken away bad behaviors, which at times seems to be the Hollywood way.
Everyone can attest that Will Smith’s bad behavior seemed way out of line for the Will Smith we all know and love—and, as he himself has stated, "it is Not the Man he wants to be". Sometimes, a slap is not a slap—sometimes there’s more going on.
I believe Will Smith was so intense and nervous about the Oscars that you could’ve blew in his ear, and he would’ve snapped. On the Red Carpet, it was quite visible that he was very nervous. He knew as an Outspoken Proud Black Man, who has openly thumbed his nose and talked against the Oscars, even boycotted previous nominations, etc., yes, “Will Smith knew that Oscar Night 2022 was his Make or Break Moment” and he also knew that this nomination would probably never come again, save slap, and that it would be slim chances that he would ever win another Oscar in his lifetime!
So, okay, excuses be damned, but I do believe that was the reason for Will’s bad behavior, and in the context of this man’s character of life, I think Will Smith should go to the ends of the earth to make amends to fix what happened, however, I do not believe he should be banned from Oscar (nor Hollywood) for life. There is so much more good in him to be utilized, to learn from, than the 100s of perpetrators in Hollywood that on the regular, don’t spend one night in jail (pay penance) for their intolerable bad behaviors.
Finally, finally, I have included the final list of Winners at the Oscars 2022 below, and a link for downloading. OSCAR 2022 WINNERS #Enjoy. And, next week, Reviews with Faye Renee will be back with a brand-new film review, and I hope this saga in the Oscars ends well for all.
That’s it, that’s all.
