Harley Quinn—Birds of Prey stars the one and only Margot Robbie—SHE IS IN EVERYTHING NOWADAYS!

Her star is skyrocketing. Margot Robbie was most recently seen in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood; Wolf of Wall Street; Bombshell; I, Tonya; and the list just goes on and on. And, she is also slated to be in the sequel to the DC Harley Quinn movie, called “The Suicide Squad 2”, coming out in 2021…

Well, let’s GET TO THE CRAZY

Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey is one Cra-azy, I mean insanely goofy, nutty movie. And I Loved It!

But from the looks of the trailer, I thought for sure I would hate it--my bad.

Birds of Prey was directed by Cathy Yan, and written Christina Hodson and Produced by DC Films.

The background on the main character Harley Quinn, a/k/a Margo Robbie, is that she first came on the DC Extended Entertainment series in 1992 as animation in the Batman Series. She was Joker’s Girlfriend in 2016 “Suicide Squad” the first live-action movie, and that didn’t work out for her, so now she’s back and feeling jilted by Joker, and mad as hell, yet free, coming off a mega break up with Joker.

Word gets out that Harley Quinn is really free of Joker, a free woman, so to speak, and makes her an easy mark for all of the villains and enemies that she and Joker have made. They come out in droves to get some payback. These villains and goons are looking to do her dirty and kill her, just to get back at Joker if not Harley Quinn herself.

Now, Harley Quinn ain’t some sweet little thing, she is a real badazz, that breaks the law and does whatever Harley Quinn wants; however, she is mega-fun! And, Margot Robbie is absolutely perfect at this superhero/villain thing—yeah, I kind of think she’s both!

Without giving away the who caboodle, after Harley Quinn realizes that she is being sought after by every villain/criminal in Gotham city she gets smart and teams up with some other badazz women—all of whom have a special power or skill they can bring to the game.

These special-skilled badazz women were: Jurnee Smollett, as “Black Canary” with an outstanding voice; Mary Elizabeth Winstead, the “Huntress”, who just loves bow & arrows; Ella Jay Basco as “Cassandra Cain”, a young wannabe Harley Quinn pickpocket, and Rosie Perez as “Det. Renee Montoya”, an older female with excellent police/detective skills—yes, these are your “Birds of Prey” that joint Harley Quinn on her fight to survive.

And, believe this, Rosie Perez is perfect as Detective Renee Montoya, who decides to team up on the super squad of female badazzes at the end of the film, as they form a solid unit, not to be messed with, which leads to a great Segway set up for the next sequel, “The Suicide Squad 2” set for August 2021 release.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Okay, YES, I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed this film, seeing how it was a super hero type, but Harley is more human than anything, and she is one nutso-city character, who I thought the writers on this one wrote a befitting script for and Margot Robbie most definitely carried the day.

I give HQ BOP a 3.5 out 5 for a super hero action film. I do not recommend it for small children, simply because, while it’s fun, it does promote certain behaviors that you might want to think twice about before taking a child younger than 13 to see. That’s my take.

Can’t wait’s for 2021 Suicide Squad 2, and that’s only if Margot Robbie is in it.

Okay, that’s it, that’s all.
